Republic of Stellaland, 1884

On 11 October 1883, Stellaland agreed to merge with the neighbouring Boer state of Goshen to its northeast to form the “United States of Stellaland”, but before that could happen, Stellaland was made a British protectorate in February 1884. The following year it was incorporated into British Bechuanaland, and in 1895 it became part of the Cape Colony. Its last flag, flown from 1884 to 1885, was vertically divided green and red, with a white 8-pointed star in the centre, maybe in anticipation of the union with Goshen, which never happened.
