Republic of Stellaland, 1883

The Republic of Stellaland, founded by Transvaal Boers, had an area of 15,500 km² and an estimated population of 20,500, of whom 3,000 were Boers. It flew a green flag with a white star, seen around August 1883. There are variants with 5-, 6- and 8-pointed stars. Apparently, there were no formally legislated flag regulations, and the president’s wife would make a flag, if one was needed, on her sewing machine and decide on the kind of star at that moment.
