Gorinchem’s “Grote kerk” (big church), built between 1450 and 1517 with its St. Janstoren (St. John’s tower), 61 metres in height and equipped with a carillon of 49 bells. The tower was added in the 16th century and was already sinking during its construction. Although the architects managed to stabilise it, they could not correct its tilt, giving a permanent incline to the base of the tower.
