Visserijdagen, a Festival in Harlingen

Tobbedansen

“Tobbedansen” (Tub dancing) during the “Visserijdagen” in Harlingen. People with homemade vessels are launched from a ramp into the harbour. The trick is to stay afloat. Inhabitants of Harlingen are traditionally called “Tobbedansers”, referring to the time when Harlingen produced woollen fabric that was cleaned in large tubs where it was treaded by men with bare feet.
