Visserijdagen, a Festival in Harlingen

Ringrijden

“Ringrijden” during the yearly “Visserijdagen” (Fishery Days) in Harlingen: a typical Frisian piece of folklore where a couple in traditional 19th century costume ride in a two-wheeled carriage pulled by a thoroughbred black Frisian horse; along the route wooden “arms” with a ring stuck between two “fingers” are placed and the woman tries to collect the rings with a wooden pointed stick while riding past at a steady trot
