A parade of Schutterijen in Limburg

“Rifle carriers” from Brunssum

“Rifle carriers”, march in the parade in Meerssen, preceded by their commander. They belong to the Schutterij “St. Gregorius de Grote” from the town of Brunssum, north of Heerlen and around 30 kilometres north east of Maastricht. This “Schutterij”, a civil militia, was founded as far back as 1559 and the present members preserve their traditions.
