A parade of Schutterijen in Limburg

Schutterij St. Salvius

The Schutterij St. Salvius from the village of Limbricht, just to the north west of Sittard, marches in the yearly “Schuttersfeest” in Meerssen, near Maastricht. Bearded “Bielemannen” carry axes “to clear the road” and a drum band leads the procession, reenacting the traditions of citizen militia of centuries ago.
