A parade of Schutterijen in Limburg

Rifle carriers

“Rifle carriers” belonging to a “Schutterij”, reenacting the traditions of voluntary city guards that used to protect towns from attack in the medieval and early modern Netherlands. Each year 60 of these clubs of “marksmen” come together for a festival in the town of Meerssen, near Maastricht, the Netherlands' southernmost city and capital of the province of Limburg.
