The Bread Gate

The “Bread Gate” in the Jacobean Church of Leeuwarden, made in the 17th Century as an external entrance to the sacristy. In the 19th Century the deacons handed out bread to the poor from this gate; hence the popular name “Broodpoortje” (Bread Gate).
