Samarkand: the historic centre

Tilya-Kori Mosque dome

Dome of the mosque at the Tilya-Kori (“Gilded”) Madrasah, dating from 1646–1660. It was a residential college for students, and also played the role of Grand Masjid (mosque). It was commissioned by Yalangtush Bakhodur, the 17th century ruler of Samarkand.
