Sangoma in trance

An initiate, after having been immersed in the river, “died” and carried back to the village, is “reborn” as fully qualified sangoma. To the sound of drums she shakes, in trance; the gallbladder of the goat that was killed for her was blown up as a balloon and fastened in her hair as a sign of seniority.
