Republic of the Union of Myanmar, 2008
In 1989 socialism was abandoned and the country was renamed “Union of Burma” once again and on 18 July of that year Burma's seal was changed in that it now appeared just in gold and black, with the name change on the scroll. On 10 May 2008 the country's name changed to “Republic of the Union of Myanmar” and the central emblem now showed the outline map of the country with laurel or olive branches and the country's new name on the scroll. Its colours were now gold on a red background, but the design remained similar to previous emblems, with its lambrequins (ornamental draperies) and two “chinthe”, mythological lions, incarnating ancient wisdom, bravery and strength.
