United States trusteeship Caroline Islands, 1960

On 3 January 1959 Alaska was admitted as a state to the Union and the United States flag subsequently changed: a 49-star flag was first flown on US Independence Day on 4 July of that year. On 21 August 1959 Hawaii also became a state, and the 50-star flag was first flown on 4 July 1960.
