Naval Ensign of Mauritius, 1974

Naval Ensign of Mauritius, 1974

In 1974 a separate Naval Ensign was designed for Mauritius, completely different from its National Flag. Its design has, on a white field, red, white, and blue vertical stripes of unequal widths and a central anchor/key emblem, with a yellow five-pointed star. It refers to the motto found on Mauritius’ coat of arms, in Latin, “Stella Clavisque Maris Indici” (Star and Key of the Indian Ocean). The Coast Guard uses this flag.
