Malawi, 1964

The flag of independent Malawi was adopted on 6 July 1964. It is a horizontal black-red-green tricolour with a red rising sun on the black stripe. The rising sun officially represents the dawn of hope and freedom for the continent of Africa. Black represents the indigenous people of the continent, red symbolises the blood of their struggle, and green represents nature.
