Peja, Kosovo's second largest City

Bajrakli mosque gate

The gate to the 15th Century Fatih Sultan Mehmet Hani's mosque, the Çarshi or Bajrakli mosque in Peja, built in 1471 by Sultan Fatih Mehmet Hani. It was severely damaged by fire in 1943 when the Bazaar of Peja was completely burned down by Italian forces and burned by Serbian militants during the 1999 Kosovo War. Initial renovation of the mosque was carried out by experts from the Italian Academy of Fine Arts and in 2018 it was being restored by a Turkish consortium, as indicated on the gate wall.
