South Jeolla Province (previous)

The previous flag of Jeollanam-do, South Jeolla Province, in the far southwest of South Korea, is yellow over dark blue, representing the earth with agriculture and the sea that surrounds the province on three sides. The leaf of the rice plant represents the city, with the rice grains representing the solidarity and unity of the districts (Kun), while the fish represents its marine products. The central symbol combines the stylised first letters of “Jeolla” (standing for abundance and progress of the industry here) and “Nam” meaning “South” (the anchor which stands for the waters and the marine development of the Province).
