Sejong Special Autonomous City

Sejong Special Autonomous City

In early 2007, a special administrative district was created from parts of the South and North Chungcheong Province near Daejeon. This has become South Korea’s de facto administrative capital city and nine ministries and four national agencies were relocated here from Seoul. The new capital opened on 2 July 2012 and more government agencies followed. Its emblem shows, in blue, a stylised roof and the flag includes, in Korean Han'gul script, its official name, “Sejong Special Autonomous City”.
