Joseon Kingdom, 1893
King Gojong formally proclaimed the Taegeukgi as the national flag on 6 March 1883. But, as there were no formal instructions on the shape of the central “Taegeuk” emblem and the arrangement of the four surrounding “gwae” trigrams, differing designs appeared in the following years. In 1893 there was a flag with the trigrams in blue instead of black.
