Eternal Rome, Italy’s capital

Piazza Navona

The Piazza Navona, one of the many atmospheric squares in Rome. Originally built as a stadium in the first century CE for athletic contests and chariot races, the square is now lined with luxurious cafés and Baroque palaces and has three lavish fountains. It was laid out in the 15th century on the ruins of the Stadium of Domitian. In the middle of Piazza Navona is the Fountain of the four Rivers with an Egyptian obelisk.
