Pompeii
Plaster cast of a victim who died of suffocation when Pompeii was buried during the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. People and animals were buried by hot ash. The ash lithified before the corpses decayed so that a good mould of the deceased remained. Filling these moulds with plaster have produced remarkable casts of the victims of the eruption.
