The Isle of Capri

Piazza Umberto I

Piazza Umberto I, otherwise known as “Piazzetta”, is the centre of the island of Capri for tourists and locals alike. It was always a centre of local life, where vegetable and fish markets were held. In 1938 a few tables were placed in the square and the Piazzetta became soon the focal point of island's social life. It is named after Umberto I, the King of Italy from 9 January 1878 until his death in 1900.
