The Isle of Capri

Mosaic floor, San Michele

The tiled floor in the baroque Church of San Michele in the village of Anacapri, a floor mosaic titled “The Garden of Eden”. It dates from 1761 and has approximately 1,500 tiles; it was done by Leonardo Chiaiese and is considered one of the finest examples of the 18th-century school of Neapolitan majolica craftsmanship. The church of San Michele was built in the years 1698 to 1727.
