Independence statue

Statue of the first ruler of Haiti, Jean-Jacques Dessalines (1758 - 1806). He was a leader of the Haitian Revolution and the first ruler of an independent Haiti under the 1801 constitution. Autocratic in his rule, he crowned himself Emperor of Haiti in 1805.
