Dire Dawa Administrative Region

Dire Dawa is a chartered city of almost 500,000 inhabitants, mainly Oromo, Somali and Amhara. It has the status of being both a city and a state. Its official seal has “Dire Dawa Administration - Ethiopia” in English and Amharic script around its emblem. It displays a pigeon, scales, a book, farm fields, a road and railway and a cogwheel, symbolising peace, justice, education, agriculture and industry. It is placed on a pale green flag.
