Republic of Ethiopia, 1975
The National flag of Ethiopia was, from 1914, always a plain green-yellow-red tricolour. In 1975 the Derg military junta also proclaimed it the official flag. The symbolism of the colours may vary but could mean: green - symbolising hope, or the land and its fertility; yellow - peace and harmony between Ethiopia’s various ethnic and religious groups; red - blood spilled in defence of Ethiopia.
