Empire of Ethiopia, 1914
Emperor Menelik II died on 12 December 1913 and the following year the sequence of the flag’s colours, that had sometimes varied, were firmly fixed with green at the top. The colours were interpreted as having a connection to the Holy Trinity and the three main provinces. They could stand for: green - the country’s fertile land and hope, yellow - natural wealth and the Christian church, red - power and faith of the nation.
