Statue of Artemis, Güzelyurt

The statue of Artemis in the Morfou Museum of Nature and Archaeology in the town of Güzelyurt (Morfou). It was found in 1980 on the coast near Salamis and is from the 2nd century BCE, the Roman period. It represents the “Mother Goddess”, symbolising the earth and rain. The 34 breast-like projections on her body symbolise fertility. There are marble deer figures on both sides of the statue.
