Gazimağusa (Famagusta), a walled city on the east coast
The view along the Famagusta city walls east to the Arsenale Bastion; constructed by the Venetians in the early 16th century, over 15 metres high, up to 8 metres thick and surrounded by a now waterless moat, the ramparts failed to keep the Ottomans at bay in 1571. In the foreground, the stone bridge to the Land Gate.
