Lefkoşa, the Turkish part of Nicosia
Old houses along Şehit Salahi Şevket Sokak, the main street in the centre of Arabahmet, the old neighbourhood between the walls in the south-west of North Nicosia. It was known as Victoria street in British times. Salahi Şevket is considered a martyr, who died on 23 December 1963 as a result of Greek attacks after Bloody Christmas, the fights between Greek and Turkish Cypriots on the night between 20–21 December 1963 and the subsequent period of island-wide violence.
