Lefkoşa, the Turkish part of Nicosia

Kyrenia Gate, North Nicosia

Kyrenia Gate (Girne Kapısı) in the Venetian wall at the northern part of the old city of North Nicosia, constructed in 1567 by the Venetians, as a part of the new city walls and restored by the Ottomans in 1821. A lookout was added to the gate for a probable Greek revolt. It is now used as a tourism information office by the Nicosia Turkish Municipality. In the background is the statue of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the first President of the Republic of Turkey.
