Larnaca, on the south-east coast of Cyprus
A complex of sacred places in Ancient Kition, in the north of present Larnaca; at the beginning of the 13th century BCE a sanctuary, Temple 2 (left foreground) was erected here. Temples 1 and 2 were twin sanctuaries, which communicated through a big courtyard, Temenos B. The Phoenicians abolished Temple 2, and Temenos B was expanded in its place, visible here. The city, near the port, was founded by sea-trading Mycenaeans.
