Kingdom of Croatia, 1848

Kingdom of Croatia, 1848

The Croatians claimed territories with Croat-speaking peoples, contested by Hungarians, the Vienna Court War Council within the Austrian Empire and the Ottoman Empire. In 1848-1849 revolutions took place in the Austrian Empire, where the various nationalities demanded more autonomy. The Kingdom of Croatia raised its flag during the Hungarian Revolution when they demanded the unification of the three Croatian kingdoms (Croatia, Slavonia and Dalmatia). The flag was a red-white-blue triband with the traditional checkerboard shield surmounted by a crown.
