Dubrovnik, the historic Ragusa Republic

Orlando Column, Luža Square

Luža Square at the eastern end of the Stradun in Dubrovnik, with Orlando Column, a stone column deeply carved in the form of an ancient knight. Orlando, or Roland, was used as a symbol of a city under the protection of the Hungarian-Croatian King, carved by the local sculptor Antun Dubrovčanin and master sculptor Bonino di Milano from 1418.
