Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, Central Australia

Climbing Uluru

The start of the climb to the top of Uluru; it always was a controversial activity: it was not without danger: an estimated 37 people have died here since tourists begin climbing it: there are plaques commemorating those who died, mainly from falls and heart attacks. It is a sacred place for the Anangu people and since 26 October 2019 it is no longer allowed.
