The southern Gulf of Carpentaria, Northern Territory

Cycad Palm nuts

Cycad Palm nuts, that used to be a source of food for Aboriginal people. Because it contains cyanide, the pounded nuts had to be soaked in water before being baked. At Manangoora, an Aboriginal homestead on the coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria east of Borroloola, Northern Territory.
