Ali Pashë Tepelena

The statue of Ali Pashë Tepelena, also known as “The Lion of Yannina”, the ruler (pasha) of the western part of Rumelia, the Ottoman Empire's European territory. He was a tyrannical ruler, based in Ioannina (now in Greece) but was born near the town of Tepelena, 30 kilometres north of Gjirokastra.
