Democratic Republic of Afghanistan 1978

Democratic Republic of Afghanistan 1978

In 19 October 1978 a new national flag was adopted, a red field (symbolising the fight against imperialism, feudality and all other kinds of oppression) with a yellow seal in the canton, consisting of a wreath of wheat with a star at the top, representing the five ethnic groups of the nation and the Pashtu word “Khalq” (the Masses) and an inscription “Saur Revolution 1357 - Democratic Republic of Afghanistan”. This refers to April 1978, when power was seized by the People's Democratic Party.
