Kingdom of Afghanistan 1929
After Amanullah's visit to Europe in late 1927, opposition to the King's rapid modernisation plans increased. An uprising in Jalalabad culminated in a march to the capital, and much of the army deserted rather than resist. With the help of various Pashtun tribes the Tajik leader Habibullah Ghazi Kalakani became the next King of Afghanistan, 17 January 1929. He adopted a red, black, and white tricolour, the same flag that was used when modern-day Afghanistan was under Mongol occupation in the 13th century.
