Kingdom of Afghanistan 1928

Kingdom of Afghanistan 1928

At the end of 1928 the flag was changed again, reflecting ideas of reform King Amanullah Khan had obtained after his visit to Europe in 1927. It now had three vertical stripes, with black, the colour of the emir, at the hoist; green, the colour of Islam, at the fly; and red, representing the bloodshed for independence (Third Anglo-Afghan War 1919-1921) with a seal in the centre: the sun rising over two snow-capped mountains, representing a new beginning for the kingdom, a wreath, a sun, a star and a ribbon with the inscription “Afghanistan”.
