Ellangowan Hotel, Augathella

The Ellangowan Hotel in Augathella, a rural town 84 kilometres north of Charleville. The town, originally called Burenda, was renamed Ellangowan and when gazetted in 1883 called Augathella. This is apparently an Indigenous Australian word meaning “camp on a waterhole”, referring to the Warrego River.
