The Tiwi Islands - Melville Island

Funerary ceremony

During a Pukumani funerary ceremony in Pularumpi (Pirlingimpi), on Melville Island. The carved and painted ''Pukumani poles'' are commissioned by the family of the deceased and used to be placed around the grave, typical of the people living on the Tiwi islands.
