The Tiwi Islands - Melville Island

Removing material

A man removes cloths strung between carved and painted “Pukumani poles”; these poles are commissioned by the family of the deceased and used to be placed around the grave. This Pukumani funerary ceremony took place in Pularumpi (Pirlingimpi), on Melville Island, Tiwi islands.
