The Province of Noord-Holland

Town Hall, Hoorn

The historical Raadhuis, now the Westfries Museum, in Hoorn, a port on the former Zuiderzee and capital of the West-Friesland region of Noord Holland. The statue is of Jan Pietersoon Coen, a native of Hoorn, who founded Batavia, now Jakarta, the capital of the Dutch East Indies, in 1619 and later unleashed a reign of terror in the eastern Moluccan islands to secure the clove trade.
