Church of Jelsum

The Reformed Church and its churchyard in the village of Jelsum, about 6 kilometres north of Leeuwarden. The Romanesque church is dedicated to Genevieve, a French Saint who lived from 422 to 502. The church stands on a “terp”, an artificial hill to prevent it from flooding before dykes were built; it dates from the Middle Ages, and was restored in 1781.
