Windmill in Stiens

A house and windmill “De Hoop” (The Hope) in the village of Stiens, the largest in the municipality of Leeuwarderadeel, 8 kilometres to the north of Leeuwarden with a population of around 7,800. The windmill was built in 1853 and was used to grind wheat with its two millstones. It was demolished in 1922, but in 1978 built up again on its foundation, burnt down on New Years' Day in 1992 (fireworks!) but rebuilt a year later.
