Old Town Hall

The Stadhuis of Willemstad, the Old Town Hall, built in 1587 on order of Prince Maurits. It was designed so that church services could be held here on Sundays - there wasn't enough funding for two buildings. During the French occupation early 19th century, a semaphore was placed on top of the tower, but it was restored to the original design after 1815. It now houses the Ceramic Museum, with pottery and other wares from the 17th-20th centuries, found here during excavations.
