Fierljeppen in Kimswerd

Young men compete in the Frisian sport of Fierljeppen (Frisian for “far-leaping”), pole-vaulting across a canal in the village of Kimswerd, just 3 Stavoren, a small port town on the IJsselmeer; it was granted city rights in the 11th century and is counted as one of the eleven cities in Friesland. south of Harlingen. The long poles will have a flat plate at the bottom to prevent it from sinking in the mud!
