West-Friesland

The unofficial flag of West-Friesland, the region in the north of the province of North Holland, is based on its arms, essentially the same as Friesland's, but the lions are “passant guardant” with five billets (small rectangles), all in gold. The difference came about around 1580 when West-Friesland wanted to become a separate province.
