Republic of Karakalpakstan, 1992

Republic of Karakalpakstan, 1992

Following the weakening of the Communist Party in the Karakalpak ASSR, its name first changed to “Karakalpak Soviet Republic” and then, on 14 January 1992, it became the Republic of Karakalpakstan, an autonomous republic in Uzbekistan. On 14 December 1992 its new state flag was approved: similar to the flag of Uzbekistan, it is light blue over ochre over light green, with thin red stripes separating the three stripes, and a very thin white fimbriation between the blue and red stripes and between the red and green stripes. In the upper hoist is a white crescent and five white stars, standing for the 5 districts of Karakalpakstan.
